| Dinner At Your Door - By John Maier | “Dining In” has a special meaning for some St. Louis Park residents. "Dinner At Your Door" (D.A.Y.D.) makes it easier for people unable to cook to get a well-balanced meal. About 200 volunteers from 19 different St. Louis Park churches and organizations deliver nutritious meals Monday through Friday (except for holidays) to residents who are homebound, elderly or disabled.
Barbara Bren is coordinator of D.A.Y.D. in St. Louis Park. The program serves about 70 people five days a week. Bren, who works out of an office provided by Methodist Hospital, says the cost of each meal is $4.00 and is usually paid by the client. However, community donations and some government funding also are available to cover costs. Darlene Gustafson is assistant... [Read more] | |

| Perspectives - By Perspectives Annual Report 2002 | Perspectives, Inc. was founded in 1976 by a small group of individuals to increase awareness of chemical dependency in Twin Cities communities. Today, 27 years later, Perspectives Family Center is an award-winning human service agency with a very specific mission: to improve the quality of life for homeless and at-risk families and children. Based in the suburb of St. Louis Park, MN. Perspectives supports their lives in the following ways:
SUPPORTIVE HOUSING at our Louisiana Court apartments offers transitional and permanent housing. Our target population, recovering women and their children, receive support through a caring and diverse staff. Intensive neighborhood involvement and a strong sense of community create an environment where families in recovery can flourish.
CHILDREN’S ENRICHMENT offers support to homeless and at-risk children. After school, children come to our Reach for the Stars program for mentoring, tutoring assistance with homework, and enrichment of basic skills. To close the day, children work with a professional chef and caring volunteers to prepare, serve, and eat a hot dinner in our Kids Cafe. An offshoot of Kids Cafe, Kids R Cookin’™, brings at-risk kids with a passion for cooking together with top chefs.
Educational and full-day activities are offered throughout the summer months in our Summer Explorers Program.
PARENT & FAMILY EDUCATION is provided through classes and home visits. Social workers teach parenting skills to at-risk parents.
THE PARENTING TIME PROGRAM provides a safe, comfortable and supportive environment for children in need of monitored or supervised parenting time services.
Perspectives’ beautiful, well-maintained buildings, caring and diverse staff, flourishing volunteer program, and strong community and corporate support provide the resources we need to help homeless and at-risk families and children improve their quality of life.
